About
The firm is new.
The engineers are not.
Bentham Acoustics is an independent acoustics, noise and vibration practice, founded in 2026 on a simple idea: acoustic advice is only worth something if a project team can act on it. That means working inside the project team rather than beside it, understanding the constraints every other discipline is working to, and treating the report as the start of the conversation rather than the end of it.
Why we started Bentham
Acoustics is one part of a project, alongside many others that matter to the people delivering it. But it shapes how a place is experienced every day after it opens, and it depends on decisions made by every other discipline on the team.
Between us, we have spent thirty years in acoustics, noise and vibration, on work ranging from a single office floor to hospitals, towers, quarries and transit lines. The lesson that carries across all of it is that a recommendation is only as good as its chance of being built. That means understanding how the rest of the project works: how a structure is sequenced, how mechanical equipment is selected and maintained, how a quarry is phased and operated, how a contractor prices a detail.
We started Bentham to give clients advice grounded in that understanding. What we care about most is whether the solution gets delivered, and whether it makes a real difference to the people who live, work and operate there.
What we believe
It is about people.
Acoustics matters because of the people who live, work, heal, learn and operate in these places. The best acoustic work goes unnoticed; it simply lets a place do what it was meant to do.
Straight answers.
Our advice is the same whoever is asking for it. We will tell you when something matters, and just as clearly when it does not.
Respect for the whole team.
Every discipline on a project is balancing constraints we may never see. Good acoustic advice works with the architecture, the structure, the budget and the operation, rather than asking all of them to make way.
Always learning.
Standards, materials and construction methods keep moving. We put time into research, standards development and teaching, because staying current is part of the job.
The practice
Bentham Acoustics was founded in 2026 by two principals, both professional engineers, with thirty years between them. Between us we cover both halves of the field, which is unusual in a practice this size and is the reason a single team can carry a project from a planning study through design and construction to the approval at the end of it.
Building acoustics and vibration.
The partitions, floors, structure and mechanical systems that decide how a building sounds and feels once people move in. Across delivery models from integrated project delivery and progressive P3 to traditional design-bid-build, on the owner’s side as well as the design team’s, and on projects from a single fit-out to a new hospital.
Environmental noise and vibration.
What a quarry, a plant, a road or a rail line sounds like to its neighbours, and what the approval depends on. Aggregate operations, utilities and industrial facilities from first noise study through approval, audit and long-term monitoring, and the noise input to land use planning, from individual development applications to master plans and municipal studies.
